Erik Coolbaugh Obituary

Erik H. Coolbaugh, 29, formerly of Harding, passed away Thursday at his home after a lifetime struggle with drug addiction.

Erik was born in Kingston on Sept. 27, 1979, a loving son to Dennis and Carol Gorgone Coolbaugh.

Erik, although troubled, had a special spirit and was easily loved by all who knew him. He will be missed greatly by all his family and friends.

He attended Wyoming Area High School and received his GED in 1998.

Erik was a member of Harding Church of Christ.

He was a lover of nature and enjoyed summer days swimming and relaxing at Buttermilk Falls.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three children, Scarlet Coolbaugh, Harding; and Anastasia and Kenneth Coolbaugh, Hopbottom; paternal grandmother, Gertrude Coolbaugh; sisters, Jennifer Skursky, Harding; and Denise Coolbaugh, Philadelphia; one niece, Emily; and one nephew, William.

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. The Rev. Dr. Robert Shaw will officiate. Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mountain View Burial Park, Harding.

DEAR CAROL, DENNIS, JENNIFER & DENISE, MANY PEOPLE WILL HAVE WORDS OF COMFORT THEY WILL OFFER TO ALL OF YOU & THEY TRULY MEAN WELL THINKING THIS IS THEIR WAY OF SHOWING YOU THEY ARE THINKING OF YOU AND PRAYING FOR YOU. ALTHOUGH THEY MEAN WELL, THERE IS NO WAY THEY WILL TRULY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE FEELING UNLESS THEY HAVE ACTUALLY WALKED IN YOUR SHOES AND HAVE FELT THAT STINGING PAIN THAT YOU HAVE. TAKE COMFORT IN THOSE THAT CAN JUST LET YOU GRIEVE WITHOUT HAVING AN ANSWER FOR WHAT HAS HAPPENED BUT JUST BEING THERE TO LEND A SHOULDER TO CRY ON OR A GENTLE TOUCH TO LET YOU KNOW THEY CARE BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR YOU, TAKE COMFORT IN THOSE WHO LOVE YOU. MY PRAYER FOR YOUR FAMILY IS THAT YOU WILL TURN YOUR EYES TO THE ONE WHO TRULY KNOWS YOUR PAIN AND SUFFERING, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS NOW LOVINGLY TAKING CARE OF ERIK. HE HAS TOLD US TO CAST OUR CARES AND BURDENS ON HIM AND HE WILL GIVE US REST. I KNOW YOUR PAIN, I WALKED IN THE SAME PATH AS YOU ARE WALKING THROUGH AND I KNOW THAT I COULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT TO WHERE I AM NOW WITHOUT MY FAITH AND LOVE AND TOTAL TRUST IN MY LORD JESUS. HE BROUGHT ME THROUGH MY GRIEF AND HE CAN DO THE SAME FOR YOU IF YOU JUST LET HIM. WHEN PEOPLE SAY "ERIK IS IN A BETTER PLACE" THEY ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT THAT. HE IS IN THE BEST PLACE HE COULD BE, WHERE THERE IS NO MORE PAIN AND NO MORE SUFFERING AND HE IS ENJOYING THE SURROUNDING OF WHAT GOD HAS PROMISED TO ALL OF US WHO BELIEVED. I REMEMBERED ERIK GROWING UP AND HE ALWAYS HAD A SWEET SPIRIT ABOUT HIM AND AN INFECTIOUS SMILE. YOU HAVE BEEN BLESSED WITH 3 CHILDREN OF HIS THAT YOU WILL SEE HIM IN THEM. IF YOU EVER NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO CAN REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE FEELING, I AM JUST A CALL AWAY. WITH MY DEEPEST HEARTFELT SYMPATHY, PAT YURKO

Erik was a great childhood friend.
Knowing him has influenced my relationship with everyone I have met since. His love of adventure and mischief, while sometimes irksome, was borne out of his love for good times and laughter. I wish that his laughter could have been with us a little longer.
Erik, you will be missed.

I am so saddened to hear of Erik's passing. I saw him just last year and he spoke about his kids, of whom he was obviously very proud. May God bless the whole family and may his spirit rest in peace.
