Altha "Toni" Swelgin, 79, of the Miners Mills section of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 8, 2017, at Riverstreet Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the Joseph and Mary (Usdavin) Salanis.
Toni was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1955, and was employed as a seamstress by Leslie Fay until her retirement. She loved to cook and bake and received a degree in culinary arts from Luzerne County Community College. She was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Swelgin Jr., on Jan. 28, 2001; her daughter, Nancy Hamm Swelgin; and her sister and brothers.
Surviving are her daughter, Patty Krushnowski, Wilkes-Barre; grandsons, Jude Krushnowski and his wife, Fio, Cory Krushnowski and Sean Krushnowski and his companion, Judee Kalenkoski; great-grandson, Alex Krushnowski; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township.
Interment will be held in St. Francis Cemetery, Plains Township, at the convenience of the family.
