Mrs. Bernadine L. Ungvarsky Price, 92, a life resident of the North End section of the city, passed into eternal life early Wednesday morning, Oct. 10, 2018, in the care of River Street Manor, where she recently resided.

Born Jan. 21, 1926, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter to the late John S. and Emma Pavco Ungvarsky. Educated in the city schools, she was a graduate of the James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, and furthered her education by attending the former Wilkes-Barre Business College.

Mrs. Price held membership in the Parish of St. Andre Bessette, having previously attended the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church, both of North Wilkes-Barre, prior to Sacred Heart's closure.

Until her retirement in 1983, Mrs. Price was employed for some 30 years with the former Bell Telephone Company in Wilkes-Barre as a business clerk. During World War II, Bernadine worked locally to help provide rations to our troops overseas.

In her youth, she loved to sing, performing in various minstrel shows at Sacred Heart Church. Her talents were immortalized on several 78 rpm record albums the family cherishes to this day.

A loving and selfless woman who enjoyed tradition, she opened her home hosting extended family members during the Christmas holidays over the years.

Becoming a widow at a young age, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Walter J. Price, on July 24, 1966. At the time of his passing, the couple shared some 14 years of married life together. She was also preceded by a brother, Edward D. Ungvarsky and his wife, Florence; nephew, Anthony Ungvarsky; and by a brother-in-law, Gerald O'Neill.

Left to mourn her passing are her son, Mr. Steven W. Price, North Wilkes-Barre and his companion, Ms. Barbara Quinn, Kingston; brothers and sisters, including John S. (Joan) Ungvarsky, Cinnaminson, N.J.; Emily (Joseph) Carone, Acra, N.Y.; Marion O'Neill, Wilmington, Del.; Elizabeth (Betsy) Ungvarsky, Weston, Vt.; and Carl J. (Dorothy) Ungvarsky, Mountain Top; and several generations of nieces and nephews, fellow parishioners and dear friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Price will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday with a Funeral Mass in Parish of St. Andre Bessette, 668 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Kenneth M. Seegar, pastor, will serve as celebrant and homilist.

Interment with the Rite of Committal will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery of St. Andre Bessette Parish, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

Relatives and friends may join Steven and his family for visitation and shared remembrances of his mother from noon until the time of Mass Saturday directly in church.

The North Wilkes-Barre location of John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc. is honored to care for Mrs. Price and her family at this time.
