Bertha Mae Williams Cragle, 90, of Hunlock Creek went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, July 2, 2013, at St. Luke's Villa, Wilkes-Barre. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Born March 12, 1923, in Plymouth, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mae Williams. She was raised in Hunlock Creek, where she attended a one-room schoolhouse. She later attended Harter High School, Nanticoke.

Bertha was employed by various sewing factories and made bomb shells during World War II. She later worked at Retreat State Hospital as an LPN. She retired in 1982.

Her hobbies included embroidery, knitting, gardening and vacationing to different states and islands.

Bertha was a strong and spiritual woman until the very end. She read her Bible daily and loved the song "How Great Thou Art." Her favorite Bible verse was Isaiah 41:10, "Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be in dismay for I am God."

Bertha was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Relza C. Cragle; companion of 27 years, Michael Chorney; brother, the Rev. Edward Williams Jr.; sisters, Ruth Morris Thomas, Mary Boyes and Mabel Smith; grandson, Edward Louis Schutz; and niece, Mabel Joline.

Surviving are her children, Naomi Hummel, Wilkes-Barre; Marsha Meade, Wyoming; Relza Cragle Jr. and wife, Cindy, Sweet Valley; Lena S. Schutz, Wilkes-Barre; and Deborah Dotter and husband, William, Pittston; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church, 853 Main Road, Hunlock Creek. All attendees are asked to proceed directly to the church for the service.

Interment will follow at Bloomingdale Cemetery, Ross Township, Shickshinny.

The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all the agencies and teams of nurses and caregivers that tended to Bertha during her journey, especially those from Hospice of the Sacred Heart. A special thank you to Patty Boehm for the wonderful care and kindness that she provided to both Bertha and the family.
