Delbert McDermott Sr., 92, of West Pittston passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Timber Ridge Nursing Center, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Ashley on Nov. 17, 1922, he was a son of the late Henry and Lulu Aten McDermott.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during World War II.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Atwater Throwing Co., Plymouth.

Mr. McDermott was a Little League manager and a Teener League coach for many years.

An avid sportsman, he loved fishing and his favorite baseball team was the Philadelphia Phillies.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily McDermott, in 2008; and brother, John McDermott.

He is survived by his sons, Delbert Jr. and his wife, Debbie, West Pittston; Donald and his wife, Linda, Exeter; and Charles and his wife, Michele, Harding; sister, Doris Shonk; grandchildren, Delbert III and wife, Mollie, Sarah, Matthew, Josh and Randy; two great-grandchildren, D.J. and Brady; and his favorite fury friend, Molly.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday.

Memorial donations may be sent Blue Chip Farms Animal Rescue, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.

Interment will be in Denison Cemetery.
