Edward George Wirsing was born in Wilkes-Barre on Feb. 1, 1923.

He graduated from Elmer L. Meyers High School in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa and Italy. He received his honorable discharge on Nov. 24, 1945.

Ed married Magdalene Jacobs, also of Wilkes-Barre, on Feb. 12, 1945.

He retired from Leeds and Northrup in 1972 and enjoyed his home and gardening and visiting his relatives.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Magdalene Jacobs Wirsing; a brother, Robert Wirsing; and sister, Mabel Crawford.

He is survived by his two daughters, Cynthia (August Rotelle) and Diana (Alan McFarling); two grandchildren, Chandler "David" Gwilliam (Gala) and Christine Falter; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Mason Gwilliam.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with Pastor Wayne Kaufman of Faith Lutheran Church, Blakeslee, officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment with military honors will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Fisher House Foundation Inc., 111 Rockville Pike, Suite 420, Rockville, MD 20850, or the Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, P.O. Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
