Estella B. Rupp, 106, of Wapwallopen passed away at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Berwick Retirement Village.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born in Briggsville on July 18, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Deaner and Emma Jane (Brouse) Gensel. She moved with her family to Nescopeck in 1912, and graduated from Nescopeck High School in 1925, where she stands the oldest living graduate of record.
In her early years, she worked at Baer Silk Mill and Duplan Silk Mill. She did housework, washing and ironing, which led her to become a housekeeper for the John Lanning family of Berwick, where she worked for 53 years. She retired at 95 years of age.
Estella was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Nescopeck, since she was 5 years old. She was confirmed in 1921, and the church recently held a special service to celebrate her 100th year of attendance. She loved God and her church family.
Because of Estella's great love for her family, her wish was to have a birthday party every year to bring her family and friends together. This tradition continued for 26 years. She was proud to have reached five generations of family, eight times.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Jane Okonieski and husband, Ralph, Wapwallopen; and Mildred Hughes, Wapwallopen; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Rupp, Nescopeck; eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Rupp, on Dec. 12, 2013; brothers and sisters, Harry, Emma, Francis, Bessie, Roy, Maurice and John; and five half-brothers.
The family would like to thank Dr. Derr and all of those who cared for her, as well as Pastor Dennison, the church family and friends for their support and prayers.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in the First United Church of Christ, 901 Third St., Nescopeck. Entombment will follow in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Estella's church, the First United Church of Christ, 901 Third St., Nescopeck, PA 18635.
Arrangements are entrusted to Heller Funeral Home, Nescopeck.
