Francis Keen, 81, a lifelong resident of Bear Creek, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at Commonwealth Hospice at St. Luke's Villa, Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Keen was born in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Victor and Mary Kopec Keen.

He worked as a sewing machine mechanic most of his life in garment factories from Glen Lyon to Scranton until his retirement.

Francis was an avid outdoorsman and had hunted and fished all over the world. He would often say "It's great to be out, be it Alaska or Brodhead's Creek." His favorite times, though, were spent with his friends and family in the northeast Pennsylvania woods.

He was also a member of the Polish American Veterans Club, Hudson, the Messiah Primitive Methodist Church, Bear Creek, and the National Rifle Association.

He is survived by his wife, Veronica (Betty) Mikula Keen; sons, Dale Keen and his wife, Holly, Alaska; and Daren Keen and his wife, Karen, Bear Creek; sisters, Margaret Dunn, Florence Dula and Virginia Gembitski; and grandsons, John, Corey, Matthew and Bradley.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 451 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.

A special thank you to Drs. John Prater and David Greenwald and staff for their kindness and compassion.

The family requests that flowers be omitted and that memorial donations in Mr. Keen's name be made to Commonwealth Home Health and Hospice of Wilkes-Barre, 900 Rutter Ave., Suite 8, Forty Fort, PA 18704.
