Jane Valaitis Obituary
She was born March 21, 1924, in Sheatown, was the daughter of the late John and Stephania Sieminski Markiewicz and was the third of 11 children.
Jane attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated from Newport Twp. High School in 1941.
In 1947, Jane married Leonard Valaitis, a former U.S. Marine who saw combat in the Pacific Theater during World War II and received a Purple Heart. The couple was married for 44 years and raised a son, Leonard Jr.
Jane was employed as a seamstress in Newport Twp. in the late 1950s and 1960s.
She was a loving mother and wife who enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing. Her home was always open to family members, especially during the holidays when she delighted in decorating for her many nieces and nephews. But what truly defined Jane was her compassion for those who were hurting. She would always comfort them with open arms and a sympathetic ear.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Sr., in August 1991.
Presently surviving are her son, Leonard Jr. and wife, Delores, Mountain Top; and grandson, Kenneth and wife, Kelli, and their children, Avery, Cameron and Ethan, Newport Twp.
Services are private with no visitation.
Services are by Grontkowski Funeral Home P.C., 51-53 W. Green St., Nanticoke, PA 18634.

Dear Len, Delores and family.
Having the great pleasure of getting to know your dear mother I write this condolence with a heavy heart. Our conversations in the short time I knew her were heart warming and full of life lessons. She had a very simple way of making me feel I knew her my entire life. She showed me grace and dignity in the aging process. I enjoyed seeing her each time I visited my mom. She made a positive, lasting impression on me. My sincere condolences as well as from my mother Eleanor and sisters, for your loss.
