Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend, Jean Emanuel, has passed away. She was 91.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 12, 1922, Jean Luce was a daughter to Bert and Anna Luce, Avoca.
Jean passed on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013. A colorful and sincere soul she was to her husband, Leon David Emanuel, and sons, L. David Emanuel II, Bloomsburg; and Jeffrey Bert Emanuel, Dallas, who succeed her. Jean was a lifetime resident of the Back Mountain, Harding area.
Jean was a graduate of the Class of 1940 of West Pittston High School, and took pride in keeping the graduating group united, well into their 60th anniversary days. Jean was also a past worthy matron of Eastern Star. She was a past president of the Irem Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, and a card club member at The Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, as well as a member of Mount Zion Methodist Church.
Jean was a devoted fan of her son, David, and faithfully attended all of his harness races at Pocono Downs, where she was lovingly coined The Equestrian Matriarch.
Mom was a member of the Pennsylvania Cider Painters, and had a portfolio of lifetime watercolor and chalk paintings and drawings.
For several decades, Jean was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Emanuel Bus Line, as well as for Emanuel Race Stable.
Mom was a member of a dying breed of pre-Internet voracious reader. Hers were the floor-to-ceiling-high stacks of books and programs that she had lovingly acquired and pored over in her lifetime.
Jean was a master of the art of correspondence. She will be remembered adoringly by those who were fortunate to be in her thoughts, and recipients of her uplifting messages. We were blessed.
A sweet, bright, delightful lady to the end, Jean never lost her charm or her sense of humor. She was the kind of person who people enjoyed being with, wherever she went.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Emanuel, in 2009, ending a marriage span of 61 years.
Surviving are her sons, David and his wife, Patricia, Bloomsburg; and Jeffrey and his wife, Sally, Dallas. Her grandchildren, J.B., Eric and Emma Emanuel, have wonderful stories of Jean's enormous love. Jean was also a great-grandmother to Addison Ellis Emanuel, Bloomsburg. Her sister, Doris Robbins, Harding, also succeeds.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Richard H. Disque Funeral Home, 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas. Interment will follow the service in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
