Jean M. Cholewa of Nanticoke passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Nanticoke on May 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John and Laura Czekaj Verfin.
A life resident of Nanticoke, Jean attended city schools and was a member of the former St. Francis of Assisi Church.
She was employed by Penn Footwear and the Nanticoke Villa Retirement Home prior to retiring in 2007.
She took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was passionate about her garden and flowers and loved spoiling Pepper, the family dog.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cholewa Sr., in 2009; infant son, Brian.
Surviving are sons, Richard Jr. and wife, Linda, Wapwallopen; David Sr. and wife, Karen, Nanticoke; and Daniel, Nanticoke; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard, Ashley; and Joseph, Forty Fort; sister, Evelyn Van Pelt, Nanticoke; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at Earl W. Lohman Funeral Home Inc., 14 W. Green St., Nanticoke. Friends may call 4 p.m. to service time Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Hospice Community Care, 100 Williams St. at Clay Avenue, Dunmore, PA 18510.
