John D. Erickson, 76, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, a son of the late John E. and Elizabeth McGlynn Erickson. John was a 1960 graduate of Meyers High School. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a corrections officer for 20 years at the State Correctional Institute at Retreat.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Parish in Wilkes-Barre.

John was an avid outdoorsman, who loved to hunt and fish with his family. He was also an avid fan of Notre Dame Football.

John had a special love for his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and uncle, who will be sadly missed.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy and Michael; and by his niece, Michelle Garbush; and his nephew, Michael Garbush.

Surviving are his sons, John Erickson and his wife, Susan, Norton, Mass.; and Paul Erickson and his wife, Tracey, Harrisburg; grandchildren, Drew, Matt and Lauren Erickson; sisters, Sharon Mangan and her husband, Joseph, Wilkes-Barre; Maureen Garbush and her husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Danny Erickson and his wife, Mary Alice, Wilkes-Barre; former wives, Ruth Oravitz and Betty Erickson; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew's Parish, 316 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
