Joseph M. Lavix, 74, of the Hudson section of Plains Township, passed away Sunday afternoon, Oct. 7, 2012, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley, Plains Township, after suffering a heart attack.

Born in Hudson, he was the son of the late John J. and Anna A. Lukus Lavix.
Joe was a graduate of Marymount High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1955, and was employed as a sales representative by Gerber Baby Food for 33 years, retiring in 1995.
Joe served as a Plains Township commissioner from 1972 to 1984, representing the First Ward.
He was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township, and a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Plains Township; Plains American Legion, Joseph E. Conlon Post 558; the Itlo Club, Hilldale section of Plains Township, and a member of the R.O.M.E.O. Club which met daily at 7 a.m. at Michael's Restaurant.
He and his wife the former, Genevieve Grabko, celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on Sept. 17, 2012.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Genevieve, are his daughters, Lisa Harding and her husband, Joseph, Plains Township; and Carol Lavix and her partner, Shirley Knelly, Annapolis, Md.; sister Rebecca Kulbaski, Ashley; nephews and nieces.
The family would like to pay special acknowledgement to Pauline Calebrese for her companionate care and friendship.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon Wednesday in Ss. Peter and Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains Township, at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at Ss. Peter and Paul Church.
