Kathleen B. Smith, 44, of Greenville, N.C., born Nov. 2, 1969, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice Center.

The funeral service was conducted Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Smith Funeral Chapel. Burial took place in Homestead Memorial Gardens.

Kathleen was a native of Pennsylvania and a graduate of Bishop Hoban Catholic High School, Wilkes-Barre. Following high school, she graduated from Ithaca College. She earned master's degrees in both choral conducting and social work from East Carolina University.

She taught music at Kinston High School for five years before becoming a psychotherapist in Greenville, N.C.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her loving mother, Rosemarie Margaret Maguire Bernesky.

She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Perry Smith; two daughters, Erin and Bridget Smith, all at home; two sons, Isaac and Luke Smith; father, John C. Bernesky; brother, John P. Bernesky; nieces, Abigail Bernesky and Susan Jaskelewicz; nephews, Christopher and Michael Bernesky; aunts and uncles, William and Doloras Berneski, Thomas and Donna Berneski, Charles and Jean Berneski, and Patricia Maguire Hutnick; and cousins, Stephen, Lisa, Melissa, William, Lauren, Chucky, Mathew and Mark.
