Marianne E. Sulewski Hill, chemistry teacher and avid animal lover, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012. She was 77.

The cause of her death was from complications of a recently diagnosed rare condition, pulmonary artery hypertension.

She was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Nanticoke. Her mother was Katherine Balus Sulewski of Glen Lyon. Her father was Zigmund Sulewski, who emigrated as a child with his family from Losewo, Poland, to Nanticoke.

The young Marianne attended Holy Trinity grade school and the public schools of Nanticoke. She graduated from Nanticoke High School, where she was a football majorette. She entered Kutztown University in 1953 and was one of two women who attained a bachelor's degree in chemistry and education.

She taught in Manahawkin, N.J., and Chesapeake City, Md., before moving to Succasunna, N.J., where she taught chemistry in Roxbury Township High School for 29 years. She was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and served on the liaison committee at her high school. She retired in 1995.

Mrs. Hill loved and cared for animals and was passionate about animal welfare. She was devoted to her parents and family. She graciously hosted numerous family functions. She loved to read, complete New York Times crossword puzzles, travel, and in recent years enjoyed dining out. She was a longtime member of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Her brother, Robert Suleski, who died May 28, 2012, predeceased her.

Mrs. Hill is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Edward G. Hill Jr., of Duluth, Minn. He is a teacher of history and government and retired from Livingston High School. He is the former mayor of Roxbury Township. Mrs. Hill met her husband in Old Saybrook, Conn., where they both worked during the summer at Terra Mar Marina managed by her brother, Robert. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on Oct. 20, 2012.

Mrs. Hill is survived by her two devoted and loving sons. Jonathan, an attorney, lives in Whippany, N.J., with his wife, Lynn Bond Hill, a doctor of pharmacy. Christopher, a veterinary surgeon, lives in Charleston, S.C., with his wife, Lori Ludwig Hill, also a veterinary surgeon.

Mrs. Hill leaves her three loving young grandsons, Derek, Jason and Brian Hill. They gave her measureless love and joy.

She is also survived by her brother, Zigmund (Chick) Sulewski Jr., Lake Hiawatha, N.J.; sisters, Joan Sulewski, MD, Buffalo, N.Y. and Eileen Grevera, Clarks Summit; sister-in-law, Margaret (Peggy) Brookus Suleski, Mendham, N.J.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Hill is missed by her three loving feline companions, "Duke," "Elvis" and "Buddy."

Visitation and funeral services were held Nov. 5 and 6 at Bermingham Funeral Home, Wharton, N.J. Due to the disruption from superstorm Sandy, interment will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 24 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester, N.J., after which a memorial Mass will be held at St. Therese Roman Catholic Church, Succasunna, N.J.
