Marietta Cefalo Wisnewski of Exeter passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2018, at her home.

She was born in Pittston, March 7, 1944. She was the daughter of the late Angelo and Josephine Parrella Cefalo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Wisnewski, in 1981.

Marietta was a graduate of West Pittston High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Wilkes University. She also attended Pacifica Graduate Institute, Carpinteria, Calif., to pursue post-graduate work in humanities and psychology. She was close to achieving her goal of a Ph.D. degree when she became ill.

She was always concerned about the welfare of others. She was a dedicated social worker for the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare for many years.

Marietta was an avid reader and student of philosophy and psychology. With keen intelligence, she was a deep thinker and articulate conversationalist, who enjoyed lively debates about literature, movies, politics and life. She loved to travel and visited many countries to observe other cultures. Her greatest joy was sharing holidays with family and friends.

She had an abiding faith in the power of prayer and regularly met with her dear friends to pray and to contemplate.

A special thank you to Dr. David Greenwald, who along with his entire staff at the Oncology Associates, was extremely caring and compassionate during the years Marietta was in treatment. Also, a special thank you to Hospice of the Sacred Heart who provided excellent care.

Marietta demonstrated the spirit of charity by volunteering for Valley Santa for many years.

She is survived by her brother, Attorney Michael Cefalo and his wife, Bette; a sister, Rosella Fedor; and extended family including an uncle and aunt, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is also survived by her extraordinary caregiver, Daria, who has been by Marietta's side for the past 10 years. She always appreciated the love and friendship she received from her wide circle of friends, especially Charlotte, who was always there for her.

You are invited to attend a celebration of Marietta's life and a blessing service to be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Howell-Lussi Funeral Home, 509 Wyoming Ave., West Pittston.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Joseph Adonizio and the Rev. Ann Marie Acacio, unity minister, will officiate.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Marietta loved flowers but surely would smile down on anyone who would graciously donate to Valley Santa, P.O. Box 5276, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18710, or a .
