Marilyn Murphy, 80, of Pittston, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre surrounded by her family.

Born in Pittston on July 28, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Regina Norton Hood. She was a graduate of St. John's High School and Lackawanna Business School. In her earlier years, she was employed as a keypunch operator for the Social Security Administration.

She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Pittston. Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her husband especially to Atlantic City. She was an avid Notre Dame fan and she was a great cook. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Murphy, in 2010; a sister, Jane Hood Hughes; and an infant brother, Joseph.

Surviving are her four children, Robert Murphy Jr. and his wife Renee, Mountain Top; Colleen Sperazza and her husband Joseph, Hughestown; Joseph Murphy, Pittston; Neil Murphy and his wife Patricia, Pittston; seven grandchildren, Robert III and Ryan Murphy; R. J. Sperazza; Neil Jr., Brianna, Keira and Sean Murphy; cousins, Peggy Rincavage, Pittston and Francis "Bucko" Hood, Montrose; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Celtic Health Care in Wilkes-Barre and Dr. Marianne Santioni in Old Forge for the excellent care given to Marilyn.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 22 from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 35 William St., Pittston. Interment will be in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Township. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 21 at the funeral home.
