Mary (Marie) Gushanas, 87, formerly of Sugar Notch, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Little Flower Manor, Wilkes-Barre, with her loving daughter at her bedside.
Mary was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 4, 1929, a daughter to the late Issac and Mary Conway Gallagher. She was a graduate of Sugar Notch High School and was a member of St. Nicholas Church, South Washington Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Mary was the matriarch of the family and made every holiday special for her family by filling the table with excellent foods and baked goods. Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a beautiful person who could always be seen with a smile on her face. She will be truly missed by all.
She had been preceded in death by her husband, George T. Gushanas, in 2005; by her daughter, Maureen Gushanas; brothers, Thomas, James, John and Joseph Gallagher; and grandchild, George Gushanas Jr.
Surviving are a son, George Gushanas and his wife, Patricia, Sweet Valley; daughters, Donna Novak, Forty Fort; Georgine Fink, Cincinnati, Ohio; Carol Gushanas and her partner, Debra Popovich, Pringle; and Rosemary Slavinski and her husband, George, Mountain Top; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Stiles, Souderton; Eileen Phillips, Sugar Notch; and Nancy Smith and her husband, Donald, Mountain Top; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Little Flower Manor and their staff for the wonderful care that she received as a guest there.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Joseph Verespy as celebrant.
Interment will follow in St. Charles Cemetery, Sugar Notch.
