Miriam "Mimi" Taren Ross passed away on Friday, July 13, 2018.

Born September 9, 1925, in Scranton, to Harry and Helen Brown Taren, she married her childhood sweetheart and next door neighbor, Jerry. At age 6, she knew she would marry him, and she never said anything that she didn't mean. Together for 63 years, they had three children, Howard (Beverly), David and Carol Culver(Jim).

She was the middle child of four brothers: Sydney, Walter, Larry and Arnold.

Mimi graduated from Coughlin High School and belonged to Anshe Svard Synagogue. She was also a very active member of Temple B'nai Brith where she was awarded the Megillat Kavod Award.

She taught mahjong and served as chairwoman of numerous Red Cross blood drives. Mimi was awarded Outstanding Volunteer by the Jewish Community Center, twice winning the Julia Lieberman Award for community service.

One of her greatest passions was the Jewish War Veterans Ladies Auxillary, serving as president at the local and state levels. At age 80, she was Bat Mitzvahed and traveled to Israel as a gift from her children. She returned again to Israel at 85.

An avid swimmer who, even at age 88, swam five days a week. She was instrumental in the community which founded the Kingston swimming pool, going door to door asking residents to support the effort.

Mimi derived her greatest pleasure from her 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Contributions in memory can be made to Temple B'nai B'rith or the Jewish Community Center.

Funeral service will be at noon on Sunday at Rosenberg Funeral Home, Wilkes Barre.

Shiva will be observed from 6 to 9 p.m. on Sunday and 12 to 4 p.m. on Monday at Temple Bnai' Brith, Kingston.
