Morton Schonfeld Obituary

Morton "Moe" Schonfeld, 91, a resident of Guardian Health Care, Nanticoke, and formerly of Dagobert Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 8, 1926, the son of the late Benjamin and Anna Goldberg Schonfeld. He was a life resident of Wilkes-Barre, where he was a member of the graduating Class of 1944 of E.L. Meyers High School.

A veteran of World War II, he was proud to serve his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 46 as an aviation electrician's mate. Moe, as he was affectionately known, was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

He was employed as a pipefitter by the Pipefitters Union 524 until his retirement.

Moe was a past master of Landmark Lodge 442, F&AM of Pennsylvania. He was an Irem Shriner, a member of the Keystone Consistory and a member of the Irem Temple Golf Association.

Preceding him in death were his wife of 57 years, the former Lois Frederick, on March 18, 2009; brother, Harold Schonfeld; and sister, Sally Sagenkahn.

Surviving are his daughter, Debra Schonfeld, Wilkes-Barre; son, James Schonfeld (Joan), Sheatown; two grandchildren, Benjamin Schonfeld (Danielle) and Julia Marczak (John); and three great-grandchildren, Emma and Natalie Marczak and Alexandra Schonfeld.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Donations may be made in his memory to Temple Israel, 236 S. River St., Wilkes Barre, PA 18702, or to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

My condolences in your loss of your father. I have good memories of him. He made me my first omelette as a young boy. I also remember the wine that he made in his basement. He was a good man.

Lois and Money were the best neighbors anyone could have. I fondly remember our dinners together. But my fondest memory of Moe was his gardening skills. He grew the most beautiful call lillies and made the best wine from his small vineyard.
My prayers are with the family.
