Paul C. Heffner, 68, of Grant Street, Shickshinny, died Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2013, at the Hospice Unit at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Feb. 12, 1945, in Berwick, he was a son of the late Paul W. and Jennie (Mizikoski) Heffner. He graduated in 1963 from Northwest Area High School. He was first employed by the Wise Potato Chip plant, Berwick, then worked at the former Berwick Forge and Fabricating, and last worked, until he retired, at the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War in the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of Glen Lyon and of Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua. He coached the little league Twin Cities team for 12 years and the midget football Northwest Jets team for seven years. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Charles Burns Jr., Dr. Bruce Saidman and staff, Dr. Michael Fath, Dr. Alfonso Rodriguez, the Hospice of the Sacred Heart staff, and the VA Hospice staff for their care of and compassion for our husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Connie Heffner; and two brothers, Stanley Heffner and David E. Heffner.
Surviving are his wife, the former Kathryn Daniels, whom he married June 28, 1969; two sons, Christopher and wife, Denise, Drums; and Justin and wife, Marcy, Kingston; a granddaughter, Emily Heffner; a brother, Robert L. Heffner and wife, Karen, Orwigsburg; and a sister, Donna Gototweski and husband, David, Shickshinny; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and his loving companion, Abby.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Holy Spirit Parish/St. Mary's Church, Mocanaqua, with his pastor, the Rev. Louis Kaminsky, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mocanaqua. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Military services will be conducted by Shickshinny American Legion Post 495.
