R. Yvonne Baker, 80, of Pittston, passed away on Mother's Day, May 13, 2018, following a glorious life centered on family and faith.

Born in Susquehanna to Harold and Ida Banker, Yvonne balanced the role of daughter, wife, mother, wage earner and servant of God with effortless grace throughout her years.

Yvonne was 18 when she married James Baker, with whom she raised four children and supported multiple congregations during his appointments as a United Methodist minister. She sang in church choirs; was president of Women's Fellowship; chaired Women's Circles; served on countless committees; held office at both the District and Conference level and hosted hundreds of formal and informal dinners for church family and friends.

In later years as a member of Church of Christ Uniting (COCU), Kingston, Yvonne was a member of the choir, Church Women United and Abraham Group; helped with the Advent Brunch; served as lay speaker and provided inspirational messages on the church's devotional phone line. She was a representative from COCU to Wesley Village helping with the Spring Luncheon and raising the spirits of residents with good deeds and kind words.

Throughout her life, Yvonne also helped to support her family as an administrative professional with United Penn Bank, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. and the Wilkes-Barre District of the United Methodist Church.

Yvonne served on the board of Meals on Wheels of Wyoming Valley, through which she and Jim delivered meals for 12 years.

Yvonne is survived by her devoted husband, James; her caring children, Michael (Debby), René (Chip), Cheryl (Juan) and Scott (Jan); grandchildren, Jacob, Molly, Hannah, Meghan, Erin, Brian, Andrew and Adam; and great-grandchildren, Dominic, Simon and Ezra.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Ronald.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Church of Christ Uniting, Market Street and Sprague Avenue, Kingston, with the Rev. Dr. Carol Ann Fleming officiating.

The interment will be in Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas.
