Rachel E. Engle, 92, of Ashley passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at Hospice Community Care at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on April 9, 1920, a daughter of the late Elijah and Frances Banghart Vandermark. Rachel attended Meyers High School. She was formerly employed by the Children's and Youth Services and by the Luzerne County Bureau of the Aging, retiring in 1965.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Vandermark; and by her sisters, Arline Didwalis, Alice Bassetti and Mae Vandermark.
Surviving are daughters, Patricia Stravinski and her husband, Robert, Fort Washington; Marlene Wylie, Ashley; Donna Engle, Nanticoke; son, Frank A. Holmes and his wife, Joanne, Greeley, Col.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Peter D. Kuritz, pastor of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Fern Knoll Cemetery, Dallas.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
