Raymond F. Sekelsky Jr., 53, of Duryea, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

He was born in Duryea on Dec. 5, 1964, and was the son of Joan Warunek Jaksina and the late Raymond F. Sekelsky Sr. and stepfather, the late Ronald Jaksina.

Ray was a 1982 graduate of Pittston Area High School. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, served as a medic during Operation Desert Storm and served with Fleet Hospital 5.

After his discharge from the Navy, he was employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs and worked in many of the VA hospitals in different states. He also worked for the Office of Disabled Veterans, Wilkes-Barre.

In addition to his mother, Raymond is survived by his sister, Lynn Jumper, Duryea; his nieces and nephews, Katlyn Jumper, Hershey; Douglas Jumper III, South Carolina; and Lauren Jumper, Duryea; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with the Rev. Stefan Biggs of Parker Hill Community Church officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be held in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
