Raymond (Red) J. Ayers of Centermoreland died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

He was born April 28, 1934, in Noxen, son of the late Earle and Mildred Foote Ayers. Red was a 1952 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and prior to his retirement was employed as a mill worker by Natona Mills, Dallas, for more than 22 years.
He was a member of Temple Lodge No. 248 Free and Accepted Masons in Tunkhannock.
Red was an avid organic gardener and truly enjoyed the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ayers.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Kelly Ayers, Centermoreland; daughter and son-in-law, Cyndi and Jim Laviska, Falls; brother, Dr. Earle Ayers, and sisters, Alice Steiner and Betty Carichner, all of Tunkhannock; grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan and Amelia Ayers and Geneva and Jared Laviska.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. from Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home Inc., 73 W Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with John Steiner, nephew of Mr. Ayers, officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, 6 p.m. until the time of the service, at the funeral home.
