Richard Paul Lavelle Sr., 81, of Marathon, Fla., and formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2018, surrounded by loving family.

Born April 26, 1936, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the eldest son of the late Oliver Francis and Helen Ruth Mikita Lavelle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Patrick Lavelle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret "Peg" Ann Staub; daughter, Donna Lavelle Zigmund and her husband, Edmund; son, Richard Lavelle Jr. and his wife, Diane; daughter, Helen Lavelle Chopack Coolbaugh and her husband, Kenneth; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rich began his career working at Plains Upholstering, and eventually went on to run his own business, A&A Custom Upholstery, for many years. Richard also worked for the Delaware and Hudson Railway Co.

He was a member of the 109th Field Artillery Regiment, a lifelong regular member of the Polish American Club in Hudson and also a member of the American Legion of Marathon, Fla. Rich enjoyed fishing, hunting and professional ice hockey. He will be remembered for his quick wit and ability to get a laugh from just about anybody.

As per his wishes, a celebration of life will be held for friends and family to be announced.
