Shirley Williams Hughes of Ashley, and formerly of Somers Point, N.J., passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, in Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

Born March 17, 1931, in Wilkes-Barre, daughter of the late Percy and Lydia Cooper Williams, she was a graduate of Ashley High School, Class of 1949.

She was formerly employed as a cashier by the Claridge Hotel and Casino, Atlantic City, N.J., for more than 30 years prior to retirement.

Shirley was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 69.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Janice Ginley, Ashley; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; brothers, Percy C. Williams and William O. Williams; and sisters, Louise Reed and Alice Sallitt.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday.
