Stephen Joseph Karavitch, 78, a life resident of the Hilldale section of Plains Twp., was greeted by his Lord and savior on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, while in the care of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born Nov. 15, 1939, in Hilldale, he was a son of the late William and Julia Yankowski Karavitch. Stephen attended local schools and was a graduate of the Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1957.

After graduation, he entered the United States Air Force and later the United States Air Force Reserves.

For 33 years, until his retirement, Stephen was employed as a stock clerk and a delivery driver for M. Lidz Inc., which served the region's garment manufacturing industry.

Stephen was a devoted husband of 55 years to his loving wife, Laverne Glycenfer Karavitch; a loving father to his son, Stephen; and an active member of St. Joseph's Church, Hudson. After the church's closure, he and Laverne became a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Plains Twp.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Anastasia Stucko and brother, Vincent Karavitch.

Surviving are his loving wife, Laverne; son, Stephen and his wife, Linda, Nazareth; and his grandchildren, Stephen, Kristen and Kylie.

Funeral services for Stephen were held privately. His funeral service was placed in the care of Yanaitis Funeral Home Inc., Plains Twp.
