Theresa Maruhnich, 87, formerly of Dupont, died Monday, April 9, 2018, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore.

Born in Scranton, she was the wife of the late George Maruhnich, who died May 2012, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret Andrejack Yerke.

Theresa was a 1949 graduate of Dupont High School, a member of St. Joseph Marello Parish and was a retired seamstress working in the local garment industry.

She was an avid lover of steam engines throughout her life and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, who meant the world to her.

She was also preceded in death by four siblings, Frances, William, Vera and Dorothy.

She is survived by three daughters, Georgette Lavelle (Peter), Avoca; Laura Kovacs (Stephen), Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and Terry Maruhnich, Dupont; seven grandchildren, Lisa Durdan (Paul), Peter Lavelle (Alea), Jeffrey Lavelle, Stephanie Kovacs, Nick Kovacs, Chris Kovacs and Hannah Maruhnich; one great-grandson, Paul Durdan; nieces; and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston.

Interment will follow in St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton.

A viewing for family and friends will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Edward J. Chomko Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 262 Railroad Ave., West Scranton.
