Virginia Helfrich, 92, of the Newtown section of Hanover Township, died Wednesday evening, April 23, 2014, in Celtic Hospice, Geisinger Community Care South Wilkes-Barre, with her loving family by her side.

Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Frances Miller Rother and was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1939.
Virginia was a member of St. Aloysius Church, where for many years she was a volunteer in the school cafeteria and worked their annual bazaars.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John, after 59 years of marriage; brothers, Paul and Robert Rother; sister, Elizabeth Herriotts; wonderful daughter-in-law, Marisa Helfrich; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rother; and great-granddaughter, Madelyn Rose Lehman.
She is survived by her son, John Helfrich and his companion, Sharon Whitman, Texas; daughter, with whom she resided, Nancy Lehman and her husband, George, Newtown section of Hanover Township; grandsons, George Lehman and companion, Corrine Sartini, Wilkes-Barre; Brian Lehman and his wife, Elaine, Plains Township; and Kevin Helfrich, Texas; great-grandchildren, Melissa, George, Grace and Emma Lehman, Schiann, Altheena, Aidan, Kevonya and Devin Helfrich, Texas; great-great-grandson, John Yodsnukis; brothers, Donald Rother, Hanover Township; and Charles Rother and his wife, Margie, Levittown; sister-in-law, Florence Rother, New Mexico, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday from Lehman Family Funeral Service Inc., 689 Hazle Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Division Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday.
