John Dennis Hughes, 81, of Dallas passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born May 9, 1932, John was the youngest son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mary Boyle Hughes. He was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary.
John was associated with the Hughes Corp., Luzerne, and a long-time member of Local 524 Pipefitter Union.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was a brother, Robert Hughes.
A man of quiet dignity, wisdom, and love, he is survived by those he referred to as his most treasured valuables: his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Baker Hughes; and his children, Mary Hughes, Shavertown; Patti Baltusavich, West Wyoming; Paul John Hughes, Dallas; Judi Hughes, Naples, Fla.; Rebecca Hughes Sarti, Forty Fort; and Kathy Butcher and husband, Michael, Kingston. John and Ann were blessed with 10 beautiful grandchildren, and this week, welcomed their first great-grandchild. A brother, Joseph Hughes, also survives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. The Rev. James J. Paisley will officiate. The Hughes family will receive friends Saturday following the services in the church.
