Leon J. Shiner Jr. of Pocono Summit, died Thursday, in Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Allentown, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 10, 1940, in Wilkes-Barre, son of the late Leon Sr. and Theresa John Shiner. He was a graduate of Coolbaugh High School, Class of 1958. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army where he was a chef.
Leon was owner/operator of Leon's Pizza, Pocono Summit, where he was proud to be the first pizza shop in the Poconos, Near East Restaurant, Pocono Summit, and Leon's Fireside Café, Pocono Summit.
He was a member of the Pocono Chef's Association and was the longest running vendor at the Delaware Water Gap Jazz Festival.
Leon was a member of St. Anthony/St. George Maronite Church, Wilkes-Barre, and St. Mary's, Mt. Pocono.
He is survived by his children, Noelle and her husband, Mark Richardson, Bethlehem; Robert Leon and his wife, Sandra Shiner, Nazareth; granddaughter, Natalie Richardson; sisters, Ann Bedwick, Hanover Township; Barbara Shimko, Pocono Summit; Marlene Abiaad and her husband, Karem, Pocono Summit; brothers, Michael Shiner, Hilton Head, S.C.; Richard and his wife, Rose Shiner, Pocono Pines; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Leon was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Home, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with services at 9:30 a.m. in St. George Maronite Church, Loomis Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
