Cynthia (Cindy) L. Boyer passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at the age of 59 after a courageous 5½-year fight against lung cancer.

She was a 1973 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Penn State University in 1977 and a Master of Science degree in nursing in 1983 from the University of Pennsylvania.

Due to her support of her fellow patients and families, she received the "Cancer Survivor of the Year" award in 2007 from Crozer Chester Medical Center. Her motto was always to have gratitude for our blessings and to encourage others to fight for healing.

This year she was awarded the Penns Wood Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society Presidential Educational Award, established and named in her honor for her many years of dedication and support.

Cindy was a member of Middletown Presbyterian Church, Media.

Cindy was born in Kingston to Dorothy Ann Pickering Boyer and the late Charles Edward Boyer Jr.

She is survived by her mother; brothers, James C. Boyer, captain, U.S. Navy, retired, and Dr. Charles E. Boyer III; and by her sister, Dorothy A. Boyer Foran. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.

Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday from Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home, which will be followed by burial in Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton.
