Joseph J. Olshefski passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2014.

Born May 13, 1935, he was the son of the late Peter and Nell Gatusky Olshefski.

A native of Wilkes-Barre Township, he resided in Mountain Top for several years prior to relocating to Montgomery County (Maple Glen and Montgomery Township) in 1988.

He was a graduate of Marymount High School, attended King's College and participated in many banking-related educational programs.

A banker for more than 45 years, he began his career at Susquehanna Savings as a teller and eventually became its president in 1981. He negotiated a merger of Susquehanna Savings into Philadelphia-based Atlantic Financial, a statewide bank. Joe eventually became president of Atlantic's statewide retail banking network of 81 locations. He later served a 15-year period with Maple Glen-based Willow Grove Bank.

He was a member of St. Jude's Church, Mountain Top; St. Alphonsus Church, Maple Glen; a Man of Malvern Retreat House (Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Group); a lifetime third-degree member of Knights of Columbus Council 302; and many fraternal, civic and banking organizations in Montgomery and Chester counties.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl and Peter Jr., and by his sisters, Mary and Teresa.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, the former Dorothy Trosko, Plains Township; children, Karen Evans and her husband, Gregory, Beth Langston and her husband, Timothy, and David Olshefski; brother, Richard Olshefski; and sister, Irene Dunne. He was the proud grandfather of Zachary and Mary Katherine Evans and Tyler, Hope and Joshua Olshefski, and stepgrandfather of Ashleigh, Nicole and Gabrielle Samuel. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday from Bednarski & Thomas Funeral Home, 27 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, the Rev. J. Duane Gavitt officiating.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
