Lee Albert Namey, 69, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday evening, March 3, 2014, in the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Lee was a son of the late Elias Leo and Claire Ralston Namey.

He was a 1963 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School, Wilkes-Barre, where he excelled in athletics. He furthered his education, earning a bachelor's degree from Wilkes College in 1968 and a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Marywood College.

He was an educator at Wyoming Valley West High School and West Side Career and Technology Center, where he retired as principal.

In 1975, Lee was elected to Wilkes- Barre City Council and served three terms. In 1987, he was elected to the first of two terms as mayor of Wilkes-Barre City. He was involved in many community service organizations and was an avid community activist. He leaves behind a legacy of service to the Greater Wilkes-Barre area and devotion to his family and friends.

His greatest joys were spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoying the outdoors.

Lee is survived by wife, Juanita Vincent Namey, of 49 years; children, Angela Falzone and her husband, Richard, Wilkes-Barre; and Tara Namey, Landsdale; seven grandchildren, Samuel, Richard, Alesha and Lee Falzone, and Kadar, Elia and Kaden Namey; brother, Dr. Jeffrey Namey; niece, Debra Finarelli, Dallas; nephew, Dr. Jeffrey Namey Jr., Morrestown, N.J.; and many extended family members.

A true gentleman, he will be sadly missed by all who knew him and the many lives he touched.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from St. Mary's Antiochian Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, with a celebration of his life at 10 a.m.

Interment will be held privately in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call at the church from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lee A. Namey Scholarship, Wilkes University, 84 W. South St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18766, or to St. Mary's Antiochian Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
