Joan Smith of Wilkes-Barre passed away Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Allied Skilled Nursing, Scranton.

Born June 8, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late David and Harriet Allen Gwynn.
Joan attended Wilkes-Barre area schools. She was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family. Joan was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Henry Smith on Nov. 12, 2010; daughter, Joan Balz, on July 17, 2011; brother, Thomas; and sisters, Lois Krebs and Dolores Gwynn.
Surviving are her daughters, Jacqueline Lucidi and her husband, Anthony of Dallas; Gloria Mooney and her husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre; Denise Citsay, Wilkes-Barre, and Sandra Woychik and her companion, Artie Oliver, Wilkes-Barre; son, Robert Smith, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Ben Kovaleski and his fiancee, Maria Diakatis; Jaimie Coach and her husband, Mark; Rebecca McMahon, Gloria Balz, Trisha Balz, Kayla Slomovitz, Justin Woychik and his wife, Theresa; and Erin Coriale and her husband, Justin; great-grandchildren, Briseis Kovaleski, Mark Coach, Nah'kiya, Jordan, and Kamryn Harris, and Roman Coriale; sisters, Catherine Prednis, and Margaret Kepler, both of Wilkes-Barre; and brothers, David Gwynn and his wife, Donna; and James Gwynn and his wife, Lorraine, both of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church will be announced at a later time. Arrangements are by the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, Wilkes-Barre.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Geisinger Wyoming Valley and Allied Skilled Nursing for their care of Joan during her illness.
