Ronald (Ron) Balonis, 73, of Trucksville died Wednesday, April 16, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on Aug. 25, 1940, Ron was the son of the late Michael and Anna Drakas Balonis. He was the beloved husband of Betsy Johnson Balonis. The couple would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on April 24, 2014.
Ron graduated from Hanover Area High School, Class of 1958, and Wilkes College in 1960 with a degree in electrical engineering. He began employment as an engineer at WILK radio, where he worked for 40 years. He retired in August 2000 as the chief engineer of the WILK Network, which included KRZ, Froggy and the Wish Network. Ron was constantly on a learning curve and went to work each day to make the stations better.
Ron was a member of St. Therese's Church, Shavertown.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his infant daughter, Angel Balonis; sister, Joan; and brothers, Leonard and Robert. His daughter, Debbie Balonis, died in 2004.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Betsy, are his son, Michael Balonis and wife, Lisa (Charney), Harding; his daughters, Ann Balonis Zoranski and husband, Jeff, Swoyersville; and Susan Frisch and husband, John, Germansville; and sister-in-law, Christine Kislo Balonis, Huntingdon.
Ron enjoyed gardening, computer programming and ham radio. He was also a devoted caregiver to his family and enjoyed sharing the love and laughter of his grandchildren, Dylan Zoranski, Keri Frisch and Bryce Zoranski.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Therese's Church, Pioneer Avenue and Davis Street, Shavertown. The Rev. James J. Paisley will officiate.
Interment will be made in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Therese's Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown, PA 18708.
