Rose Chiarelli of Pittston passed away peacefully at Highland Manor, Exeter, on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

Born in Pittston on Dec. 21, 1919, she was the last surviving child of the late Nicoli and Carmella Miceli. She was the wife of the late Charles Chiarelli, with whom she partnered with in owning Chiarelli's Grocery Store in Pittston for 40 years.

Her family was her greatest treasure; she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Rose was a life member of St. Rocco's Church, Christian Mothers and was devoted to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. For 40 years, she was instrumental in the designing and making of the capes that adorned the Blessed Mother during the month of October and for the yearly procession.

In addition to her husband of 60 years, preceding her in death were her infant son, Frank; grandson, Michael Callahan; sisters, Susan Maria, Catherine Ricotta and Vita Manganaro; and brothers, Philip, Joseph, Sam and James Miceli and Frank and Angelo Russo.

Surviving are her daughters, Carmella and husband, Ray Dziewit, West Wyoming; and Catherine and Vincent Galasso, Wilmington, Del.; grandson, Mark Callahan and fiancée, Francesca Jumper, and David Callahan; granddaughters, Maria Evans, Rosalind Jacono and Joanne Galasso; and great-grandchildren, Rocky Jacono, Samuel Evans, Charles and Michael Callahan. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

At Rose's request, a special thank you is extended to her grandson, Mark, who cared for her and allowed her to remain in her home. Also her nieces, Dr. Carmella Sebastian and Maria and husband, Chester Montante, who were by her side when she needed.

Memorial donations may be made in Rose's name to the Restoration of the Mother of the Rosary Fund, c/o Montedoro Society of Pittston (Lisa Joyce, 25 New St., Pittston, PA 18640).

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Joseph Lombardo, and Dr. Mauer Biscotti who took care of Rose all her life. Also Bayada Home Health Care, Celtic Home Health and Hospice, and the staff at Highland Manor for their exceptional care.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services will begin in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday. Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 12:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Joseph Marello Parish, William Street, Pittston, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
