Stasia Kerestes, 88, formerly of Front Street, Warrior Run, died Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

She was born in Warrior Run on May 5, 1925, the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anna Karpinski Chmura. She was a life resident of Warrior Run.
She attended Holy Family Parochial School and was a member of the graduating class of Warrior Run High School, Class of 1942. Stasia was also a member of the Warrior Run American Legion Auxiliary Unit 176, the Polish National Alliance Group 299 and the Nanticoke Senior Citizens.
She was a member of Holy Family Church, Sugar Notch, and was an active participant with the bazaars and school reunions.
She was employed by Winkler's Department Store in Ashley.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Thomas Kerestes, who died May 4, 1997; brothers, Nicholas, Edward, Joseph, Clarence, Stanley, Anthony and John Chmura; and sisters, Helen Wonsavage, Eleanor Trusky and Victoria Kolativa.
Surviving are her son, Thomas and his wife, Cheryl, Wyoming. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 7:45 a.m. Saturday from George A. Strish Inc. Funeral Home, 105 N. Main St., Ashley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Main Street, Sugar Notch.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Birchwood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke, for their care and concern during Stasia's time of need.
