Ellen Jane Emmert, 70, of Plains Township passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

She was born Nov. 22, 1943, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late Donald and Ellen Hughes Winder.
A 1961 graduate of Meyers High School, she was employed by the personnel department of the Wilkes-Barre Area School District for 38 years.
Ellen served as the president of the PSEA Secretaries and Aides Union for many years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, traveling and vacations to the Outer Banks.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Winder, and sister-in-law, Geri Winder.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, John Emmert; children, John Emmert, Plains Township; Michael Emmert, Plains Township; Lynn Jarnot and her husband Brian, Plains Township; and Brian Emmert, Scranton; grandchildren, Rebecca, Sarah, Rachael, Zach, Michael and Kacie; brother, Lee Winder and his wife, Kathy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. John Boyle, pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, Plains Township. Private interment services will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
