Joseph J. Heiser, 95, formerly of Wilkes-Barre Township, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Timber Ridge Health Care Center, Plains Township.

He was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Wilkes-Barre Township, a son of the late Adam and Mary Siecko Heiser. He was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School and he attended King's College.
Joseph was an Army Air Force veteran, serving in the European and African theaters during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for many years by the Tobyhanna Army Depot.
Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Prior to its closure he was a member of St. Joseph's Friary, Wilkes-Barre Township, where he served as a lector and member of the Holy Name Society. Joseph was also a member of Wilkes-Barre Township American Legion Post 815.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia R. Walters Heiser, in 1986. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Adam Heiser, and by his sisters, Elizabeth and Anna Heiser, Susan Kish, Eleanor Martin and Mary (Mamie) Yencha
Surviving are his children, Joseph Heiser and his wife, Elaine, Wilkes-Barre Township; Jerome Heiser and his wife, Debbie, Gainsville, Va.; John Heiser, Dallas; Christine Gozikowski and her husband, Robert, Powder Springs, Ga.; Marla Graziano and her husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre Township; Shelia Tavella and her husband, Joseph, Wilkes-Barre; and Alycia Williams and her husband, Malcolm, West Wyoming; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Marie Baratta and her husband, Michael, Apalachin, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
