Carmen A. Alu, 85, of Pittston died Wednesday, May 14, 2014, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa (Tluczek) Alu.

Born Oct. 5, 1928, in Pittston, son of the late Gaetano and Assunta (Alu) Alu, he was a proud member of the Army.

Carmen was a lifelong resident of Pittston, where he served as the head custodian for the Pittston Area School District for more than 30 years.

He was also proud member of St. Joseph Marello Parish.

Surviving are his sons, Anthony Alu, Pittston; Frank and wife, JoAnn Alu, Scranton; and Joseph Alu, Pittston; a daughter, Susan Alu and companion, George Cawley, Kingston; a granddaughter, Maria Alu and fiancé, James Lesh; grandsons, Carmen and Vincent Alu; great-grandchildren, Jayden and Bryce Alu; and a sister, Carmella Gibbons.

He was also preceded in death, in addition to his parents and wife, by his brothers, Tony, James, John and Samuel Alu, and sisters, Grace Naples, Rose Randazzo, Josephine Anzalone.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Graziano Funeral Home Inc., Pittston Township.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Marello Parish, William Street, Pittston. Those who plan on attending should be at the funeral home no later than 8:30 a.m.

Interment with military honors by the AMVETS Honor Guard of Pittston will be held at St. Rocco's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Pittston Township.

A viewing will be held from 8 to 9 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
