Leonard H. Kemmerer, 69, of Hanover Township passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at his home.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre on May 28, 1944, a son of the late Jacob and Rose Spaide Kemmerer. Leonard was a graduate of Hanover Township High School.

He was an Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne.

Leonard was employed as a municipal worker by Hanover Township.

He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Leonard was a member of the Oak Grove Club, Wilkes-Barre.

He was an avid Red Sox and Redskins Fan and a season ticket holder and fan of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for 15 years.

Leonard enjoyed going on cruises with his family.

Leonard loved his dogs, of which 10 have crossed the Rainbow Bridge and are waiting for him.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jacob and Harry Kemmerer, and sister, Mary Jones.

Leonard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Catherine (Ginger) Kemmerer; daughter, Cathy Harding and her husband, Robert, Hanover Township; grandchildren, Megan, Connor and Duncan; brother, Paul Kemmerer and his wife, Jackie, Hanover Township; sisters, Alice Gillis and her husband, Michael, Hanover Township; and Nancy Wright, Thornhurst; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Oreo and Bailey.

Leonard's family would like to thank the Geisinger Cancer Center, Dr. Annela Ali and staff, and Robert and Marie Harding, who stood by him during his illness.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish at St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division streets, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Blue Chip Farms Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
