Stephen Budzyn, 64, of Swoyersville passed into eternal life just after midnight, Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre, the son of Rose M. (Vojcik) Budzyn of Plains Township and the late Chester R. Budzyn. Educated in Plains Township schools, he was a graduate of the former Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1967, and furthered his education by attaining a degree in accounting from the Wilkes-Barre Business College.

Mr. Budzyn served our country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He proudly served from March 5, 1970 until he was honorably discharged on Feb. 17, 1972. At the time of his discharge, he held the rank of Specialist 5th class, HQ2D Logistical Directorate for Data Systems in Okinawa, Japan. Following his military service, Mr. Budzyn was employed by the Arrow Distribution Company for 2½ years, and later at PNC Bank of 10 years. Until his retirement in 2013, he was employed as a corrections officer at the State Corrections Institute, Dallas for 29 years.

His favorite pastimes were family vacations to Myrtle Beach, Florida, and fishing. He was a great Poppy to his two granddaughters. They were the joys of his life.

Stephen was a member of Holy Family Parish, Luzerne.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, the former Elaine Pacana, at home; son, Brian Budzyn and his wife, Susan; granddaughters, Keira and Arianna, all of Swoyersville; his beloved mother, Rose M. Budzyn, Plains Township; brothers, Michael Budzyn, Richard Budzyn and his wife, Debra, and John Budzyn and his wife, Rita, all of Wilkes-Barre; brother-in-law, John Pacana and his wife, Karen, Exeter; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Budzyn will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday from the North Wilkes-Barre location of the John V. Morris Family Funeral Homes Inc., 625 N. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett St., Luzerne. The Rev. Michael Zipay, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment with Rites of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Courtdale, where honors will be accorded by the burial detail honor guard of the State Correctional Institutions.

Relatives and friends may join the Budzyn family for visitation and remembrances from 5 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions may be made in Stephen's memory to the charity of the donor's choosing.
