Alice M. Preston Jacobsen, 65, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

She was born Jan. 7, 1949, in Flint, Mich., a daughter of Ida Hay Preston and the late Donald Preston. She and her family moved to this area in 1960 and Alice attended St. John the Evangelist School and was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1967.

She attended the Guthrie School of Nursing and was formerly employed by Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and Maimonides Hospital, New York City. She resided in New York City for several years and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Brooklyn, where she taught bible study. She returned to the Wilkes-Barre area and was employed by the Leader/River Run Nursing Home, Kingston, in the dietary department. Alice retired Feb. 7, 2014, after 35 years of employment.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Preston.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 42 years, Raymond Jacobsen; sons, Mark Jacobsen and his wife, Tracey Lynn, Wilkes-Barre; and Michael Jacobsen, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Eddie and Virginia Jacobsen; sister, Donna Zimmerman, Luzerne; brother, Timothy Preston, Bay St. Louis, Miss.; aunts, uncles nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Services will be conducted by the Rev. James Quinn, pastor of Bennett Presbyterian Church, Luzerne.

Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
