Edward Washney, 78, of Plains Township passed peacefully Wednesday, June 25, 2014, in the Celtic Hospice Unit of Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 3, 1935, in Plains Township, he was a son to the late John and Anna Ozark Washney. Ed grew up in the Plains Township area and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1953.
After graduation, Ed enlisted in the U.S. Army. He completed his basic training in Maryland and served tours in France and Greenland. He attained the rank of specialist.
After he was honorably discharged from his service, Ed moved to Philadelphia. He became a press operator for the Stone Container Co. Ed worked 25 years until his retirement.
After his retirement, Ed returned to the valley in 1996. He enjoyed his time with a love of fishing, target shooting, and going to yard sales on the weekends. He loved to tinker with broken items he found at these yard sales and restore them. He was a handyman - a Mr. Fix-it.
Overall, his pride and joy was being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Washney.
He is survived by his son, Edward and his wife, Jennifer, Plains Township; sisters, Dorothy Shubert and Lillian Mazuchowski, both of Philadelphia; grandchildren, Phylicia and Edward; and several nieces and nephews.
