Betty Farrell, 83, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday, June 30, 2014, at her daughter, Dottie's, home.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Nov. 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Malia Mayer.

Betty was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1949.

She was employed by King's Department Store in Wilkes-Barre and was later employed for many years by Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre.

Betty was a member of St. Nicholas Church in Wilkes-Barre. She formerly served as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 43 at St. Nicholas Church. She was also a proud member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Donegal Society.

She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick M. Farrell, in 2012; and by her sisters, Dorothy Bradley and Marie McCoy.

Betty is survived by her husband of 62 years, Joseph G. Farrell, and by her daughter, Dottie Povilaitis and her husband, Edward, Wilkes-Barre; son, Joseph W. Farrell and his wife, Mary Jean, Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Betty Jo Niemkiewicz and her husband, Brian; Gina Kyttle and her husband, Cody; Joseph and Sarah Farrell; great-grandchildren, Gavin Fincke, Tristan Niemkiewicz, E.J. and Mia Kyttle; brother, Raymond Mayer, Rutherford, N.J.; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Nicholas Church, 226 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
