Dr. Edward J. Blazejewski, 64, of Hanover Township and Meadow Run Lake, Bear Creek, passed away July 3, 2014, surrounded by his loving family and friends.

He was born in Wilkes-Barre to the late Edward and Viola Brigani Blazejewski, and was married to the former Mary Ellen Kerestes. He graduated from Wyoming Seminary and Wilkes College and earned his master's degree in counseling from the University of Scranton and his doctoral degree from Lehigh University.
Edward, "Dr. B.," taught mathematics at Plains High School and James M. Coughlin High School and was a guidance counselor at Plains Junior High School and James M. Coughlin High School. He served as Dean of Students at James M. Coughlin High School before beginning his career as Director of Pupil Personnel for the Wilkes-Barre Area School District. Edward also served as director of Testing Administration for ETS (Educational Testing Service) for the Wilkes-Barre region and as director of Test Administration for the Northeastern Regional Civil Service Commission. Edward was the recipient of the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award presented by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Administrators Association and the University of Scranton. He was a member of the NEA (National Education Association), PSEA (Pennsylvania State Education Association), WBAEA (Wilkes-Barre Area Education Association), NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals) and ASCD (Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development), and was presently a member of the PASR (Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees).
Edward was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Wilkes-Barre, presently St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, and served the parish as a Eucharistic minister for 30 years. Additionally, Edward was a member of the parish finance council, the parish bazaar finance committee and was president of the advisory board of St. Aloysius School and chairman of the parish scholarship committee.
Edward served as chairman of the Luzerne County Children and Youth Services Advisory Board and was a member of the Tri-Boro Lions Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Westmoreland Club.
Predeceasing Edward, in addition to his parents, was his Aunt Mary Brigani.
Surviving Ed are his wife, Mary Ellen Blazejewski; sister, Sandra and her husband, Dr. Bernard Frantz, Plains Township; nephew, Dr. Bernard Frantz and his wife, Susan, Shavertown; niece, Wendy Nussey, Ocean City, N.J.; great-nieces and great-nephews, Bernard E. Frantz, Hope Elizabeth Frantz, Arden Grace Nussey, Wynne Violet Nussey; aunt and godmother, Eleanor Blazejewski, Plains Township.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church, Barney and Division streets, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
