Theresa Shinal, 78, of Wilkes-Barre Township passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at her home.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on March 27, 1936, a daughter of the late Charles and Theresa Popovich Citsay. Theresa was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Township High School, Class of 1954.
She was formerly employed as a dietary aide by Meyers High School and she was later employed for many years as a dietary aide by Riverstreet Manor, prior to her retirement.
She was lifetime member of St. Joseph's Monastery in Wilkes-Barre Township, prior to its closure.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Cilwick and Ann Laut, and brothers, Charles, Andrew, George, Daniel, Peter and Michael Citsay.
Theresa was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She has been married for the past 57 years to her high school sweetheart, Gerald A. Shinal Sr. She is also survived by her sons, Gerald A. Shinal Jr. and his wife, Anita, Wilkes-Barre Township; and Robert Shinal and his wife, Megan, Wilkes-Barre Township; grandsons, Gerald A. Shinal III, Robert Shinal Jr. and Jacob Shinal; sister, Helen Swida, Hanover Township; brother, John Citsay and his wife, Linda, Hanover Township; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
