John D. (Jack) Jones, 94, of Wilkes-Barre passed away Monday, July 14, 2014, at The Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas, surrounded by his loving family.

Jack was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 16, 1920, a son of the late Joseph and Sophia Thomas Jones. He was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School.

He was an Army veteran, serving in the European and African theaters during World War II. Jack was a recipient of the Bronze Star.

He was employed for many years as a driver by Friedman's Express and he was a member of the Teamsters Local 401 in Wilkes-Barre.

Jack was a member of the F&AM Fidelity Lodge 655, Wilkes-Barre, the Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg, and the Irem Temple Shrine.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred A. Jones, in 1990; by his brothers, Steward and Richard Jones; and his sisters, Elsie Davis and Dorothy Schmidt.

He is survived by his son, Jack J. Jones and his wife, Mildred, Shavertown; grandchildren, Jack W. Jones and his wife, Sonia, Keith Jones and his wife, Maureen, Tara Gring and her husband, Kevin, and Amy Mullery and her husband, David; and great-grandchildren, Kevin Gring Jr., Avery Mullery and Gary Seman.

All of his family will always remember and cherish their fond memories of their trips to Canada, Niagara Falls, the Thousand Islands, Mexico and many more places.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday from Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. Carol E. Coleman, pastor of Luzerne United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
